Shattuck (Henry L.) is born in Boston.

October 12, 1879

The son of Dr. Frederick Shattuck, Henry Shattuck and grows up at 135 Marlborough Street, graduates from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, works initially managing trusts and becomes a philanthropist. He serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1920-1930, 1943-1949) and Boston City Council (1934-1942). Cornelius Dalton later writes, “He was one of the few truly great legislators of this century on Beacon Hill. He had intellect, integrity, an intense devotion to public service, and was absolutely fearless.” Shattuck dies at Massachusetts General Hospital on February 2, 1971. A public service award in his name begins to be awarded in 1985.*
